School Visit: Scituate Fire Department
​The SFD will visit to talk about fire safety, show us the truck and let us squirt the hose. We’ll have our first evacuation drill after this visit and will have one every month during the year.

​Returning and new families join us for a fun afternoon to meet your child's teachers, classmates and other parents. Bring a bulb to plant on our playground. Each session will end in a sing-a-long! Your entire family is welcome.

In the Classroom: Halloween Celebrations
Fours bring a costume to school for our parade to other classrooms. Please make sure that the costume and the bag it comes in are both labeled with your child’s name. Threes do not wear costumes but will make masks for our parade. If you would like to provide a special treat for your child’s class please speak to the teachers.
In the Classroom: Homemade Soup
Families are invited to join their child's class for homemade soup!
Event: Clean Sweep                                                                             PAC
Join Erdman parents in giving our school a mid-year cleaning to start the spring semester. Wine, cheese, friends, and Lysol wipes: a fun night and huge help to our school! This is a quick, easy opportunity to help make your child's classroom shine. There will be a sign up sheet at the bottom of the stairs. Please join us - many hands make light work! Details TBA.

Our Holiday Bake Sale accompanies the Sing-a-Long during the last two days of school before Holiday Break. Sign-up sheets for bakers and sellers will go up in early December on the PAC Board. Get ready to stock up on your holiday baked goods!
All the family is invited to visit school this evening. Enjoy cider and refreshments made by each class. Visit your child’s classroom, view his/her artwork, class books, pictures and enjoy your class’s homemade snack. WF 3s: 5-5:30, MWF PM 3s: 5:30-6:15, 4 Day 4s: 6-7, MWF AM 4s: 5-6, MTTH 4s: 6-7, MTTH 3s: 6:15-7
In the Classroom: Valentine's Day
On Valentine’s Day each child will exchange cards (homemade or bought) with classmates. Your child’s name should be on the back of the card, and there's no need for envelopes as each child will deliver a card to each classmate. If you would like to provide a special nut free treat for snack on that day please speak to your teachers!

June / July / August, 2018
Join us during the summer for outdoor play, arts & crafts, stories, games and music on our shady playground. Make friends and have fun! The Summer Camp program for 2.9 - 6 year olds runs for 9 sessions (June - August). Children may sign up for multiple weeks and do not have to attend Erdman to enjoy the fun!
Event: Kindergarten Readiness Evening
This is an opportunity for Pre K parents to ask questions and understand the expectations of the Kindergarten school year. A panel of SPS Kindergarten teachers will be on hand for the Q&A. This event is sponsored by Scituate ECC, Erdman Preschool, Beach Street School, Owl’s Crossing Preschool, Lil’ Munchkins and Little Steps. Wampatuck School Cafeteria, 266 Tilden Road.
Event: Family Literacy Evening                                                           PAC
Let's celebrate reading and help instill love of literature in our children. Wear pajamas and bring your favorite stuffed animal to school for crafts and stories read by parents, friends, and older siblings. FYI, this is a family night so please plan to stay with your kids. Siblings are also welcome.
In the Classroom: Spring Egg Trees
A spring tradition at Erdman is the creation of egg trees. The Fours create beautiful individual egg trees and the Threes cooperate to decorate one large tree. But we need your help! Please send in as many eggshells as you can (white is ideal, but brown will work, too). They must be broken in half, washed with soap and water and soaked for a few minutes in a mild bleach solution.
School Visit: Mass Audubon
Mass Audubon brings a fun, nature-based learning experience with live animals into our classroom! This program is aligned with MA Dept of Education Curriculum Frameworks.
In the Classroom: Hatching Chicks
The eggs for our incubator will arrive from the Plymouth Country Extension Service and be set up in the Threes room. Hatching time is about 3 weeks and we will be looking for homes for our chicks by Memorial Day. Please let us know if you would like Erdman chickens!
Event: Nona's Ice Cream Teacher Scoop-A-Thon                                                                                                      PAC
Bring your family and friends to benefit your favorite preschool. Erdman teachers will be scooping! See you at Nona's in Scituate Harbor!
In the Classroom: Hatching Butterflies
Caterpillars arrive at Erdman and our students delight in watching these hungry caterpillars munch through leaves and go through their metamorphosis into beautiful painted lady butterflies!
In the Classroom: Mother's Day Celebrations
Come and share a special Mother’s Day snack with your child! After April vacation all classes will begin Mother’s Day surprises. Watch for your invitation!
Threes classes visit Dalby Farm on Grove Street in Scituate. Details to follow by class.
Field Trip: Exploratory Beach Trips
Fours visit the beach at low tide to find treasures, explore tide pools, gather items for show and tell, have snack, and make a craft. Parents will bring their child to the beach and pick up from the beach that day. You are encouraged to stay and participate!
Field Trip: Lawson Tower Climb
Fours climb Lawson Tower on their last day of school - just before the ice cream social in the morning or just after ice cream in the afternoon. More information and permission slips will follow at the end of May.
Field Trip: Sailing Handmade Paddleboats on the Common

Event: Ship Shape Day & Playground Clean-Up                                                                                                        PAC
Ship Shape Day is an annual spring event to clean up litter from Scituate's streets, playgrounds, and beaches. Erdman children and parents are gathering to clean up the greenspace between the Erdman Playground and the Town Library. Come for all or part of the time to help! Clean-up supplies will be provided as well as coffee and bagels. Don't forget to wear your Erdman gear to show your school spirit!
Open House for Prospective Families
We welcome children ages 2 - 5 to explore Erdman with their parent/caregiver​ and learn what makes us one of the most loved preschools in Scituate! Registration for the 2017-18 school year opens in October. All prospective families are welcome!

​Check out the new book sale at the bottom of the stairs! It's easy -- $1/book into the money box = help purchase supplies for the classroom. This will be ongoing throughout the year, and we will rely on donations from parents & friends to keep the shelves stocked and inventory fresh!

New students who live within SPS attendance boundaries will need to complete the SPS student registration forms and submit them to their neighborhood school.

Where can I register my child for school?

Please visit your neighborhood school to register. Kindergarten registration starts March 1!

If your child is identified as a potential English Language Learner, you will need to register the student at the Family Registration and Orientation Center (F.R.O.C.) at 1807 N. Washington, C-101. Please call Debbie Battista at (509) 354-6263 to make an appointment.

Summer Registration (June 20 - August 15)

New student registration for elementary and middle schoolers who want to attend their neighborhood school continues through the summer at the administration building, 200 N. Bernard.

Staff can assist with the registration process from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Please note that registrations cannot be accepted until all immunizations are complete.

High school registrations are accepted at neighborhood schools throughout the summer. Please call high schools for summer hours.

Parents and guardians are urged to contact their school office after August 16 to verify enrollment and to obtain specific school information. For further assistance, please contact 354-5900.

If your child’s first language or the language spoken at home is not English, please contact Debbie Battista at 354-6263 or debbieba@spokaneschools.org to make an appointment to register for school.

What do I need to bring with me to register?

  1. A birth certificate or other official verification of age (such as a passport or visa) is required for students who have not previously enrolled in school. Kindergarten students must be 5 on or before Aug. 31; first graders must be 6.
  2. Proof of residency. This can be a current driver's license or ID, or a current utility bill.
  3. Registration forms (these will be available at your school too). These are available at the school, or you can download the entire registration packet here.

Why do I need to provide this information?

The registration form provides important information that allows SPS to:

  • Distribute important information to you, including your student's academic progress (report cards) and attendance records.
  • Respond appropriately in the event of an emergency.
  • Provide and evaluate student supports such as language services.
  • Honor the racial/ethnic and/or cultural identity of students.
  • Pursue and distribute resources to strengthen instruction for all students.
  • Ensure compliance with civil rights laws.

When does school start?

The 2018-19 school year begins Thursday, Aug. 30, for grades 1-12. Kindergarteners start Wednesday, Sept. 5, to allow kindergarten teachers and parents time for Family Connections conferences.

Does Spokane Public Schools offer full-day kindergarten?

What will happen if my student does not speak English?

Students registering with Spokane Public Schools who indicate that their first learned language is not English are given a placement exam to determine eligibility for the English Language Development (ELD) program. This placement test must be given within 10 days of the student's entry into the school district.
